All Together Now?

Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe | February 8, 1976

Selected highlights from this sermon

God calls all believers to unity within the body of Christ. Unity does not mean uniformity or sameness. Unity is the oneness of God’s people through the Holy Spirit. God is gathering people together in Christ, and we can either help maintain or fight against His work.

Will you be part of the unity of God’s body?

Transcripts for Dr. Wiersbe's sermons are forthcoming. Below is an outline of his message.

The second half of Ephesians is all about our walk in Christ.

We have responsibilities as followers of Christ.

Four walks of Ephesians: in unity, purity, harmony, and victory.

These walks are a good assessment of our Christian lives.

All of these walks start in our relationship with other Christians.

Three truths that allow us to walk in unity and encourage the oneness of the church:

-      The meaning of unity

  • Unity is not uniformity.
  • Unity grows out of the inner man, but uniformity comes from outer pressure.
  • We don’t manufacture unity. God created it, and we maintain it.
  • Unity is the oneness of God’s people through the Holy Spirit.
  • Love helps keep the unity of the church alive.
  • Local assemblies of believers are patterned after the one body of Christ.
  • We are to be led by the Holy Spirit, headed by God the Son, and called by God the Father. That is unity.

-      The motive for unity

  • Living and responsibilities are based on learning and doctrine.
  • God has called, blessed, chosen, adopted, and forgiven us because He is gathering all things in Christ.
  • Since this is what God is doing, this is what we should be doing.
  • When the church is unified, the rest of the world can believe that God is who He says He is.

-      Maintaining unity

  • Love, meekness, humility, patience, and gentleness are necessary for unity.
  • We can either be a part of the problem or the answer.
  • If we are troublemakers we are working against the very work of God.
