Married & Buried

Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe | March 26, 1978

Selected highlights from this sermon

The resurrection of Jesus is more than just an event in history. The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ has meaning for each of us today. If we understand what it means to be married and buried with Christ, we’ll understand what it means to live the vibrant and victorious life God wants us to live.

Transcripts for Dr. Wiersbe's sermons are forthcoming. Below is an outline of his message.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ means newness of life.

When you trust Jesus as your savior you attend a birth, wedding, and funeral all at the same time.

The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ has meaning for each of us today.

If we understand what it means to be married and buried with Christ, we’ll understand what it means to live the vibrant and victorious life God wants us to live.

  • When you trust Christ as your Savior, you were married to Christ.
    • Jesus is the greatest example of love, and He took the first step in our marriage to Him.
    • Jesus loved us even when we rebelled against Him.
    • Jesus died for us even when we didn’t love Him back.
    • Knowledge and feelings don’t make you married; we must respond with our will and commit.
    • We are married to Jesus that we might produce fruit for His glory.
  • When you trust Christ as your Savior, you were buried with Christ.
    • We bring sin, the Law, and our old nature into our marriage with Christ. These things must be buried.
    • We must leave the things of our old life in the grave.
    • When you’re living under the Law, there is fear and condemnation. You can’t be married that way.
    • The Christian life should not be built on guilt and obligation.
    • Love is the fulfillment of the law.

We must say “I will” to Jesus and begin our new life with Him.
