Today’s Reading: Hebrews 9
Today’s Reference: Hebrews 10:12,14 “But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God…For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”
“It is finished.”
Jesus came to Earth with a task: to suffer, preach, heal, and die. In the midst of the crucifixion ordeal, He cried out in triumph that He had fulfilled His mission to the last requirement. There was nothing He left undone, nothing to regret.
The heavy curtain separating the Holy of Holies from the rest of the Temple was torn in two. No longer would a high priest need to go in with the blood of animals. That covenant was over forever. The doorway to the Holy of Holies stood open to all.
Unlike Jesus, we don’t always clearly see the task God has for us, and we don’t know when we will die. All the more reason to keep our eyes wide open, looking for opportunities to do God’s will. Live today so that you, too, can say “it is finished” in your final hour… and look forward to hearing, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Prayer:
Father, there are times I don’t see the task You have for me. There are times I willfully choose not to do the tasks I see. Help me to delight in Your will and work for a life that will finish with nothing undone!
In Jesus’ name, amen.
