Tithing

By Oscar Lowry

A sermon from guest speaker Oscar Lowry.

“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse, for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be meat in mine house and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”—Malachi 3:8–10

The Awful Result Of Keeping Back Part

By Rev. Paul Rader

(Helpful to Sunday School Lesson of January 25, 1920, Acts 5:1–11)

“Kept back part.” Primarily this lesson is on lying to the Holy Ghost, but the reason for the lie is in these little words. Many are lying to the Holy Ghost who are not killed in our day; but they started by keeping back part. They promised to go all the way with Christ. They said they made a full surrender, but they kept back part. Oh, examine your heart. Have you kept back part?

“Satan filled thine heart.” Remember Satan hates us, going about as a roaring lion. …

The Flag And The Unraveling Of America

By Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

Dear Friend,

When I entered the United States as a Canadian citizen back in 1970, I already had respect for the American flag—long before I became a US citizen. I can honestly say that despite the many faults of the United States—and there are many—I am unashamedly proud to be an America; I gladly say The Pledge of Allegiance and love “Old Glory.”

The words in the Pledge, “the Flag of the United States of America,” were intended to make clear to immigrants that his was not the flag of their home country, but a flag intended to represent the …

The Crooked Woman

By Dr. Alan Redpath

Pastor Redpath’s first sermon at The Moody Church from September 20, 1953.

As my first message of this pastorate I purpose to set before us what is the primary objective in the coming years of my ministry, as God helps us and gives us grace. I believe no more fitting passage of Scripture could be used for this purpose than the thirteenth chapter of St. Luke’s Gospel beginning at the tenth verse—the story of a woman with a “spirit of infirmity.”

“And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

“And behold, there was a woman which …

Terrorism, Refugees, And Our Security

By Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

The war is raging.

Months ago on television, when I saw the body of a two-year-old boy washed up on a shore, the victim of a capsized boat filled with refugees fleeing the horrors of ISIS, I wanted compassion to win. This precious child represented tens of thousands of refugees who are dying of hunger, lack protection from the weather, and are just plain exhausted. With incredulity and sorrow, we watch the hordes of weary immigrants march across rugged terrain, and pray that they can find a new life. In response to the crisis, several European countries have welcomed these …

1956-07 Eternal Distinction.jpg

Eternal Distinction

By Eric Crichton

In the first thirteen verses of Matthew 25, we find recorded one of the final public messages of our Lord’s earthly ministry.

Before looking at the actual substance of this passage, we should note two particular things about it.

First—our Lord is here speaking about the kingdom of heaven (verse 1). This expression “the kingdom of heaven” is an inclusive term embracing all of Christendom. It includes the church visible, i.e., the organized church throughout the world and it includes the church invisible, i.e., the true church, the mystical body of Christ.

Second—in speaking of the kingdom of heaven, our …

Building A Memorial To God's Great Servant

By TMC Staff

God has conferred upon the members of The Moody Church a wonderful privilege in giving us this sacred opportunity and responsibility. We have a priceless heritage in the church D.L. Moody left to us, in its confession of faith, its constitution and mode of government, and in Mr. Moody’s impregnable loyalty to the word of God, and his quenchless life-long passion to win men and women to Christ.

Highly as we in The Moody Church love and esteem his memory, there are thousands upon thousands of believers around the world who honor and revere his name with equal if not …

Holy Boldness

By Rev. Paul Rader

(Helpful to Sunday School Lesson of January 18, 1920, Acts 4)

“Then Peter, filled—” One of the marks of the fullness of the Holy Ghost is boldness. There is a vast difference between boldness and “brass;” there is a difference between courage and boldness. We speak of it as “holy boldness.” When we are clean, when sin is put away—confessed and washed in the precious blood—there comes a rich, racy, red-blooded feeling to the heart of the child of God that sensitizes every nerve and removes all feeling of shame. If there is any trust of ourselves this boldness cannot …

1956-12 Road to Revival.jpg

The Road To Revival

By Dr. Alan Redpath

I suppose first and foremost, that a church fellowship has been called into being in order that, through every one of its members redeemed by the blood of Christ and indwelt by His Spirit, there might be made manifest through the church the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, that whether you be in workshop or factory, home, business, hospital, wherever it may be, whenever others come in contact with you and me they should be conscious that they are in the presence of Christ who indwells us. Then surely, a church, a fellowship is called together in order that …

Digging Wells: Part 2

By Rev. Paul Rader

Read Genesis 26:12–28.

The two wells just spoken of, Sitnah and Esek, were Isaac’s own attempts and flesh attempts at that, at well digging. When he opened up the old wells that his father had dug everything was alright, but when he tried to dig in his own way the result was a well of contention and another of hatred. Now he turns his back on these two wells and the 22nd verse says “he removed from thence.” That is the best way I know, out of a situation like the one in which Isaac found himself. Paul greatly rebukes …
