We have been studying a little bit in the prophecy of Isaiah, and I want to ask you to turn to Isaiah 26, the first two verses: “In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks. Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.”
You know, this book of Isaiah is just full of some thrilling and wonderful pictures of God’s plan of deliverance for you and me. This isn’t simply an ancient book of prophecy …
Our text for our message today is in the thirteenth chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, verse thirteen: “Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.”
“John departing from them, returned to Jerusalem.” From the various references in the New Testament to John Mark, we don’t have much difficulty in having a fairly clear insight into his life and character. He was the son of a Christian lady who lived in Jerusalem whose name was Mary, the sister of Barnabas.
No Christian can afford to have the reputation for owing without paying. If through reverses or misfortunes of any kind you find that you are unable to pay a debt, seek your creditor and explain to him, while you appeal to his mercy. If he demands in payment all you have, to the hat that is on your head, you had better surrender it rather than risk making a name for refusing to pay debts. A professing Christian who refused to pay his debts when pressed by his creditors quoted the hymn, “Free from the law, O happy condition,” and …
“Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence.”—Isaiah 8:13–14
The thought that fear has any part to play in vital Christian experience is really foreign to most people. The general and popular presentation of the Gospel is that of the love of God revealed to us on the cross, a love which casts out every fear, and by resting in that love and by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ we …
The world changed in December 2019 when the COVID-19 pandemic spread exponentially in every part of America and around the World. It’s not just a health crisis, but a terrible economic crisis. At no other time in history has a modern, industrialized economy essentially shut down in a matter of weeks.
I am convinced that the economic ripples will continue long after the health scare has passed. With thousands of businesses closed, leaving millions unemployed, it will take time—perhaps years—to rebuild. The economy is not a light switch that can be shut off and turned back on. I believe there …
“And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee.”—2 Corinthians 12:9
You know, when He first whispers that, you say to yourself, with your intelligence and intellect, “Yes, Lord, that is right. I know that to be a fact. Your grace is sufficient.” But then a little dark hour will come, and the hurt goes a little deeper than you thought it was going to go, and He says it again, “My grace is sufficient for you.” And then your soul beings to understand.
Now, Paul looked at it from a different angle than we may take. Paul …
“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven.” —Matthew 18:21–22
In the opening part of Matthew, chapter 18, our Lord was speaking to His disciples about greatness in the kingdom. He had spoken to them about the heart of a child as an example of greatness. They were quite mystified about this kingdom He was going to set up. It seemed to them that He had spoken about …
Written in honor of Dr. Ironside’s tenth anniversary as Pastor of The Moody Church.
We fully appreciate the problems which confront us when we attempt to write at least a portion of the life story of one who is still living and actively engaged in the ministry to which God has called him. On the other hand, because there is so much of real value in the life and ministry of this devoted servant of Christ that will be a source of real inspiration to multitudes, it is without apology that we pen these lines. When approached and urged to …
Message preached by Pastor Alan Redpath at the closing service of the Foreign Missionary Rally, May 5, 1957.
“Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”—John 12:24
I have only four words for my text and there are only ten letters in them all put together, but I tell you, my friend, that these four words are the most vital and fundamental in all Christian experience—“But if it die.” And I want to bring you in the name of the Lord Jesus just right there, …
Notes of a message preached by Pastor Alan Redpath on Sunday, January 20, 1957.
Perhaps to many of you, this subject of witness and soulwinning brings almost a blush to your face in the recognition that you have never really seriously attempted to lead anyone to know Jesus Christ as his Savior. To others it brings a sense of shame because so often we have failed. Perhaps there was a time when we began to speak a word, but maybe from the derision of the one to whom we were speaking or the laughter or the jesting of others, or …
